Middle school students in Ms. Fedynich’s Enrichment class enjoyed a day at the Franklin Pond acting as engineers and testing out their boats.

The students were challenged to research Buoyancy and Archimedes’ Principle and then construct a life size boat using only cardboard and duct tape.

The students tested their final designs by putting sandbags in the boat at the Franklin Pond. After all boats succeeded with the sandbags, the students themselves tested their boats with their own body weight.

All boats floated with the longest floating boat lasting six minutes.
