The League of Women Voters of New Jersey will host the annual “Making Democracy Work” Awards Ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tinton Falls at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 22.

The event celebrates the extraordinary dedication of individuals committed to empowering, educating, and protecting New Jersey voters. This year’s honorees are former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli; Christian Fuscarino, Garden State Equality; Michael Hill, NJTV; Alexis Karteron, Rutgers School of Law; and Anne Maiese, League of Women Voters of New Jersey.

“Polarized partisan bickering and record low voter turnout show us democracy is in trouble,’ said Jesse Burns, Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey. “These honorees have demonstrated the commitment to civil civic discourse and civic engagement needed to make our democracy work.”

The Honorable Jack Ciattarelli is being celebrated for his work reaching across the aisle as a former New Jersey assembly member. Christian Fuscarino is being honored for ensuring the LGBT community has a powerful voice in democracy. NJTV journalist Michael Hill’s statewide coverage has greatly contributed to educating New Jersey voters and Alexis Karteron protects New Jersey voters at court on Election Day. Finally, Anne Maiese is being celebrated for her previous service as president of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey.
